How to get low ping in Roblox for free
Ping is the time your data takes to reach the Roblox server and come back. You cannot move closer to the server, but several things on the way are free to fix. Here they are in the order worth trying, and none of them costs anything.
4 min readFirst, read your real ping
Press Shift + F5 in Roblox and look at the ping number. Write it down before you change anything, or you will not know what helped.
Above roughly 120ms you will notice the delay, and above 200ms it is hard to play. If your ping is already low and the game still feels bad, your problem is something else. See why Roblox lags and what fixes it.
1. Join a closer server
Roblox picks a server for you when you join, and it is not always the nearest one. Leave and join again. It costs ten seconds and sometimes lands you in a data centre much closer to you.
If the game shows a server list, try a few. Two servers of the same game can sit on different continents.
2. Use a cable, or fix your Wi-Fi
A network cable is the biggest free win for most people. Wi-Fi adds delay and drops data in short bursts, which shows up as ping spikes even when the average looks fine.
If a cable is impossible, switch to the 5GHz band and move closer to the router. Walls matter more than distance.
3. Stop other things using your line
Your ping is shared with everything else on your connection. The worst offender is uploading: a cloud backup, someone streaming, a phone sending photos. Uploads hurt games far more than downloads do.
- Pause downloads, updates and cloud backups while you play.
- Close launchers that update games in the background.
- Check whether someone else in the house is streaming or uploading.
4. Fix the route
This is the part most guides skip, and it is the one that helps when everything above is already fine. Your data does not travel to the server in a straight line. It follows whatever path the networks in between have agreed on, and that path can wander a long way.
A relay tool sends only your Roblox traffic through a machine placed near the game server, so it takes a short path on purpose. SwiftTunnel does this for free. It is not magic: if your route is already direct, no tool will lower your ping, and the honest ones tell you so before you install anything.
What does not lower ping
- A faster internet plan. More bandwidth does not shorten the trip to the server.
- Changing your DNS. DNS only looks up names. It plays no part once you are connected to a game.
- Registry tweaks sold as ping reducers. Most of them change settings for TCP. Roblox sends game data over UDP, so they do nothing for it.
- FPS boosters. Frame rate and ping are different problems. A booster can make the picture smoother and leave your ping exactly where it was.
- An ordinary VPN. It sends everything through one server chosen for privacy, not for being near Roblox. It usually adds ping.
Common questions
What is a good ping for Roblox?
Anything you do not notice. For most people the delay becomes noticeable above roughly 120ms and hard to play through above 200ms. Fast PvP games make it obvious sooner than roleplay or building games do.
Can you get 0 ping in Roblox?
No. Ping is travel time, and your data cannot arrive before it leaves. The lowest ping you can reach is set by the distance between you and the server, so the only way to get near the floor is to play on a server close to you.
Is 100 ping good in Roblox?
It is playable. Most games feel fine at 100ms. You start to feel it in fast PvP games, where a tenth of a second decides who hit first.
Does faster internet lower ping?
No. A faster plan gives you more bandwidth, which is how much data fits through at once. Ping is how long each piece takes to arrive. A 20 Mbps line and a 1 Gbps line can have exactly the same ping.
