Adopt Me guide: pets, trading and how not to get scammed
How pets age, what actually holds value, the trading rules that protect you, and the scams that catch new players.
5 min readAdopt Me is a pet collecting and trading game with a roleplay layer on top, and almost all of its depth is in the trading. Understanding what holds value, and how people get scammed, matters more than anything you do in the world itself.
How pets work
Pets age through stages as you complete tasks with them, from Newborn upward to Full Grown. Ageing a pet takes real effort, which is why a Full Grown version of the same pet is worth considerably more than a Newborn one. Neon and Mega pets are made by combining multiple Full Grown copies, which is why they sit at the top of the value chain.
The consequence for a new player is simple: do not trade away Full Grown pets casually. The grind is the value, not the pet itself.
What actually holds value
- Legendary pets from retired eggs, because supply stopped and demand did not.
- Neon and Mega forms, because each one consumed several fully grown pets.
- Event pets that were only available for a limited window.
- Ordinary pets from current eggs are effectively worthless in trade, however cute.
Trading without getting scammed
Almost every scam in Adopt Me relies on rushing you. The trade window shows exactly what each side is offering, so the scam has to happen through pressure rather than trickery: swapping an item at the last second, insisting you accept before you have read it, or promising to send the rest afterwards.
- Read the window immediately before you accept, every single time.
- Nobody sends the rest afterwards. There is no trust system, and there is no recovery.
- Check current values first. Prices move constantly and that is what scammers count on.
- Trade somewhere quiet rather than in the middle of the hub, where you are being rushed by design.
Why trades freeze at the worst moment
A trade is a sequence of confirmations between you, the other player and the server. Every step waits on the one before it, so if a packet is lost the whole window can stall. That is a connection problem, not the game being unfair, and it is worth fixing before a trade you care about.
Illustrative. Your actual numbers depend on where you are and which Roblox data centre you land in. The ping test measures both.
